The Centre for Animal Welfare Policy works to advance the protection and well-being of animals.

Its activities include:

Preparing briefings for policy-makers on important issues of animal law and policy and formulating reform proposals.

Providing support and training to NGOs on matters of animal law and policy, with the goal of helping them to maximise the impact of their legislative work.

Providing thoughtleadership on animal welfare law and policy issues.

Submitting evidence in response to calls for evidence from Parliamentary select committees on matters relevant to the welfare of animals.

Providing submissions to government departments as part of consultations on legislative proposals impacting the treatment of animals.

    Danielle Duffield

    Founder and Executive Director

    Danielle has been involved in animal law and policy work for over a decade—including through litigation, law reform projects, drafting private members’ bills for Members of Parliament, and as an adviser on animal welfare policy at the UK Parliament. Danielle is also an adjunct law lecturer specialising in global and comparative animal law. In addition to her animal law work, Danielle spent nearly a decade working as an international lawyer, acting for governments and private clients in domestic and international lawsuits and advising on matters of public international law. She holds degrees from the University of Otago and Harvard Law School.
